Form 2 Science Curriculum (gr. 4-6)

SMH’s Form 2 Living Science Guides (grades 4-6) include everything you will need for a robust study of science at the elementary level. Each includes: reading assignments, activities or experiments based on the reading, narration and discussion prompts, object lesson and nature study prompts, suggested nature lore and leisure reading, recommended supplemental books, videos, and articles, and exam questions. Notes

  • If you need to consider the reading level of the living books used, please note that the two easiest are Weather and Magnets. The hardest of them are Machines, Geology, Chemistry, and Waves. Remember that this does not affect the quality of the material to be learned, so don’t shy away from the “easier” ones just because your student is a strong reader.

F2 Astronomy

In this astronomy study guide, Form 2 students will be introduced to the universe and its stars, including the concept of star constellations. They will also become familiar with the observable patterns of motion of the sun, moon, and stars, and the brightness of the sun compared to other stars.

F2 Botany

In this Form 2 Botany study guide, students will be introduced to the study of botany. They will learn about a plant’s life cycle, including its seeds, what a plant needs to survive and grow, how it uses the nourishment it gathers, and how pollen and seeds travel. They will also study symbiosis, fungi, algae, mosses and ferns.

F2 Chemistry

In this Form 2 (grades 4-6) study guide, students will be introduced to the subject of chemistry. They will learn about atoms and molecules; solids, liquids, and gases; physical and chemical changes; and elements, compounds, and mixtures.

F2 Geology

In this Form 2 (grades 4-6) study guide, students will be introduced to the composition, structure, processes, and history of the earth, as well as rocks and minerals through a directed special study.

F2 Physics: Energy

In this Form 2 (grades 4-6) study guide, students will be introduced to what electricity is, how it is generated, how it flows through wires, and how it is harnessed in our homes and engines.

F2 Physics: Magnets

In this Form 2 Physics study guide, students will learn about the power of magnets, the invisible lines of force surrounding them, why a compass always points north, the difference between permanent and temporary magnets (electromagnets), and that almost everything that is electronic and moves most likely has a magnet in it.

F2 Physics: Waves

In this Form 2 (grades 4-6) study guide, students will be introduced to vibrations and sound waves, including how the human ear works, the speed of sound, loudness, pitch and quality, as well as echoes and acoustics.

F2 Tech & Eng (Machines)

In this form 2 (gr. 4-6) machines study guide, students will be introduced to simple and complex machines and how they are, and have been, used in our world.

F2 Weather

In this Form 2 Weather study guide, students will learn about cloud formation and type, various types of precipitation and humidity, wind, lightning and thunder, hurricanes and tornadoes, the cause of seasonal differences in weather, and the difference between weather and climate.
