Understanding Biomes: Level 4, Rotation B

After learning to observe as a field naturalist, students are ready to take the next step: becoming a natural historian.

Rather than surveying an entire ecosystem, Rotation B invites students to deepen their relationship with one aspect of the natural world that has captured their attention. Over the course of the year, they build a personal field guide, revisit years of observations from their Book of Lists, recognize seasonal patterns, and learn to think like a natural historian.

Students continue working independently through weekly lessons that combine field observation, thoughtful research, notebooking, and reflection. As they return to the same places and subjects throughout the seasons, they discover that familiarity gives rise to understanding, and understanding leads to wonder.
