First of all, as I wrap up our first year in Form 2 and our third Living Science Study Guide, I would like to let you know how much I appreciate the work you put into these guides. I’m usually a “do the work myself” type to save money rather than purchasing a curriculum or premade lessons but your guides have been so worth the investment. I’m planning to purchase all of the guides as my son progresses through his school years.
I want to thank you for putting together a wonderful guide for [Form 2] Astronomy. We have done other things for science in the past years but my kids were not loving science. I decided to try your guides as I am listener of the ADE podcast and you ladies have been a real guiding light for me in all things Charlotte Mason. I am so glad I decided to try your guides. My daughter enjoyed every minute of science and has taken her Dad and sister out to star gaze and is able to find all of the constellations we learned how to find. I am really looking forward to using the Weather and Magnets guides later this year.
Btw just wanted to share my kids LOVE your science program. My son dual enrolled his senior year and said he was learning much much more doing SMH, than his biology and enjoyed it more! (He’s in his first year of college now). His notebook progression over the years makes my homeschool mama heart so happy, I displayed them at his homeschool graduation. My daughter too! We just finished form 3 weather and she loved the Eric Sloane book and learned a ton. She said she wants to continue tracking the weather all year even though we’re moving into chemistry and physics. She asked what science and I said chemistry and she let out a big whoop! Your science has been a huge blessing!!!
After spending time reading your work, my whole attitude toward teaching science this year has gone from overwhelmed to excited!
I wanted to let you know that this last school year, all of my Forms 2-4 kids finished all of their guides and LOVED them. … And they are so wonderful that I look forward to repeating them time and again over the next 17 years. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of working through them with all of my kids. Thank you so much for all the countless hours and hard work you’ve poured into these guides to help foster a love and wonder for these sciences!
I just graduated my oldest, mostly using your guides for science, we both are glad I trusted the CM methods and stuck with it all the way through, she will probably never go into a scientific field, but she loves science and I’m confident will continue to pursue a wide variety of knowledge, and THAT is what my goal was. … SO thank you for making it possible for us to stick with CM science through graduation!
My kids are loving your science curriculum. Sixteen and fifteen year olds are starting the 2nd HS Chemistry. Twelve year old is finishing the 3/4 Astronomy and looking forward to starting Physics – he told me he hated science until he started your program. Ten year old is finishing the 2 Astronomy and looking forward to Botany. It has been a highlight of our year! Thanks for taking the time to write and share them!
We are so blessed by your hard work, knowledge & countless sacrifices that you make for these guides. I rave about them to anyone that will listen to me. I am in AWE of how much science my family is learning, but even more I am in awe of how much they ENJOY their science lessons. [My oldest daughter’s] favorite subject is now science and all her friends that are in private classical academies despise their science classes. I am so grateful!!!
We purchased your Electronics guide and my 13 year old daughter has absolutely thrived with it! As a bonus, she’s had many interesting conversations with strangers about how things work (for example, at the cell phone store asking about how wireless chargers work versus a hard power supply). Most of these conversations go straight over my head!
My sweet, sweet 16 year old girl just told me she thinks she might be a science person. (She actually said it with deep concern. She has not seen herself on a scientific path before now.) There is no question that your guides have done that for her. And we’re still doing the middle school books!
We’ve been using your chemistry curriculum and my almost ten year old is loving it. The spine book is lovely and simple. I find that the concepts taught, together with the experiments, are really understood and that they stick – she now claims that chemistry is her favorite subject (to the delight of her aunt who has a post doc in chemistry) 🙂
I can not thank you enough for tis wonderful living science DIGITAL resource! Seeing that I’m living in South-Africa hardcopies of any living recourse is nearly impossible to find or ridiculously expensive or has to be imported which is even more ridiculously expensive! So thank you again for this simple yet so rich living digital resource. I dreaded starting science but I can safely say that with your living science resources we are enjoying every minute of it!
I want to extend my sincerest thanks for creating and providing your science study guides for families to use! We are in our 8th year of homeschooling and NEVER has science been so enjoyable and so easy! I cannot recommend your guides enough. The books you have chosen are ideal – interesting enough to grab my child’s attention and both thorough and easy to understand as well.
My daughter is able to narrate fluently from the readings (which I might add, are spaced out appropriately so that she doesn’t feel overwhelmed with too much reading). Our family has struggled to regularly get science experiments done, even though I know how important they are. The experiments scheduled in other science curriculums required too much time and input from me (and I am a busy homeschooling mom trying to manage more than one child’s studies) and too many hard to find items.
It often felt like I was performing the experiment with my child as a bystander, just watching. They also often didn’t work as described, which is fine once in a while, but greatly discouraging if it happens all the time! Your guides use experiments that are easily carried out AND mostly independently by my child which means not only do they get done, they give her a wonderful sense of confidence and ability in the realm of science.
My child and I are both loving all three of the guides we are using so far this year (Forms 3-4 Botany, Physics, and Geology) and are looking forward to working through the rest.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your hard work is really making a difference not only in the day to day getting stuff done aspect of homeschooling, but also in reviving my child’s love of science and her feeling that it is something she is good at.
A very grateful customer
When I went to your talk on science at the CMI West in 2018, you were the first person who approached teaching science, executing CM’s ideas, in a way that I was excited about.
I wanted to reach out and tell you how much we appreciate your science guides. It’s been a year of using them in Forms 2 and 4 and my children and I are equally impressed.
For my children the best part has been the books in combination with the notebooking. Not only have they navigated the guides and experiments with ease but they have beautiful notebooks to show their work. In addition, they have both learned how to prepare for their own experiments and execute them. My 9 year old son executed all of the magnet experiments on his own!
For me the best part has been the format and ease to follow at a glance as my children take the lead and I listen to narrations and discussion. While I bought the paper copies, it’s easy to click on the links. Very user friendly for a non techy momma.
Thanks for all your help and inspiration!
Despite my love of science, my kids could not endure one more science textbook for their hatred of it. When I learned about “living” science books, I knew I still had a chance to spark that love. I am so grateful your website came up when I searched “living science” in a desperate hope that there was something out there to guide me I purchased your Botany and Weather guides to start our 7th grade term 1 and it has made all the difference for my kids and myself.
I have never in my life taken the time to watch a seed grow or to check a homemade barometer each day, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. I had never thought of air as large “bubbles” that move in the atmosphere like water moves in the ocean. My kids won’t admit it yet, but I see how they love it too. ❤️
Our family thanks you for taking the time to create these guides, you have brought joy back to science in our little homeschool.
I just wanted to let you know my daughter is enjoying Physics so much. It’s the first time in high school that she’s actually liked her science class. That’s not why I’m writing, though. I am writing to thank you for your approach to Physics and how you have presented it.
One reason my daughter has had trouble with science in the past is the heavy emphasis on math in most classes. She has dyslexia and dyscalculia, and she is so good at understanding scientific concepts that she’s actually helped me understand several things throughout the years. She hasn’t, however, been able to confidently tackle the math.
I was going through her science notebook today, and in one narration from last week she wrote, “Physics effects every part of life and so we need to be able to understand the basics (and some in depth areas) of physics even if you have difficulty understanding the math. You are not less important, intelligent, or deserving just because numbers don’t come easy.”
No matter how many times mama tells her she isn’t “stupid” or “dumb” or “an idiot” because she struggles in certain areas, it never seems to quite get to her heart. But then I read this, and it made me tear up because *that’s* the lesson she took from her Physics class.
Thank you for the hard work you put into this curriculum. I know she will have a greater understanding of physics and will appreciate her world more because of it, but I also know that seed planted in the heart of my sweet girl will be nourished and will grow over the years ahead. She is not less important, intelligent, or deserving just because numbers don’t come easy, and neither is anyone else. With much appreciation,
